AC Milan managed to continue their pursuit of Juventus at the top of the table following their 4-1 win over Siena during the weekend. Juventus were up against an easy fixture in the form of relegation threatened Novara. Hence, AC Milan needed to get all three points in order to stay in touch with Juventus, who currently lead the Italian Serie A by three points. AC Milan managed only a 1-0 narrow win over Genoa in the midweek action, which meant that Siena were coming into their fixture at home confident that they can take something from the match. However, the return of Antonio Cassano from the heart operation motivated Milan so much so that they ran out 4-1 winners.
Cassano was at the forefront of the good things that AC Milan did in the match, which once again proved his importance to the team. He scored one goal and created two others in the match to help AC Milan to a comfortable victory. Zlatan Ibrahimovic continued his impressive form in front of goal by scoring two goals. Cassano opened the scoring after just 26 min, while Ibrahimovic doubled Milan’s advantage only 3 min later. Bogdani, however, scored in the 83rd minute to create a nervous few moments for AC Milan before they secured the win through a goal from Nocerino in injury time.
Ibrahimovic then rubbed salt into the wounds of the Siena players by scoring very late on to complete his brace. Cassano was once again the creator for the goal. Meanwhile, Juventus maintained their advantage at the top of the table by winning comfortably 4-0 against Novara. Juventus are unbeaten in this season and it looks set to continue with only a few matches remaining in the Italian Serie A this season. AC Milan will be having the crucial Milan derby in a few weeks.
